Ligue 1: Newly promoted Lens punishes lackluster PSG team with a 1 – 0 victory

In the first match of the Ligue 1 season for PSG which was played on Friday night, PSG’s suffered a shocking start to their title defence. Lens player capitalised on an error from PSG goalkeeper to give the newly promoted side a deserving 1 – 0 victory.

This comes after seven (7) key PSG players tested positive to Covid-19, which may have had a direct impact as PSG fell to a shocking 1-0 defeat to Lens at the home of the newly promoted Ligue side. First team players Neymar, Mbappe, Di Maria, Keylor Navas, Icardi, Marquinho and Leandro Paredes were all missing from the side, prompting the coach to use a handful of fringe players, as well as debuting newbie goalkeeper, Marcin Bulka.

The depleted PSG side couldn’t contain the attacking talents of the newly promoted side, with Ganago coming close and hitting the bar after a scintillating run which saw him take on a number of PSG players before his shot was deflated by the bar.

Things went bad for the PSG side when their goalkeeper commited the dreaded howler pass reminiscent of goalkeepers under pressure. However, his howler was intercepted by a Lens player, Ganago, who quickly fired in a fine shot to the far right side of the net to slot home the winner on the night in the 57th minute.

Kimpembe also suffered injury in the match and limped off in a second consecutive night of defeat for the Parisian club since their lost to Bayern Munich in the Champions League finals.
