Bayern Munich secured their fifth trophy of the year after winning the German Super Cup. Recall that Bayern Munich has previously won The Champions League, The Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and the UEFA Super Cup.
The Bavarian giants won their fifth trophy of the year after a finely contested match against Borussia Dortmund yesterday. The win now means that Bayern Munich is one trophy short of completing the Sextuple which FC Barcelona achieved back in 2009.
The only trophy remaining for the German side to win now is the FIFA Club World Cup which is scheduled to hold in December. The FIFA Club World Cup is a FIFA organised event which hosts the Champions League winners from six FIFA confederations.
Till date, FC Barcelona is the only team to have completed a Sextuple during Pep Guardiola’s maiden season at Barca, a feat that cemented his status as one of the best managers the round leather game has ever seen.
Should Bayern Munich win the FIFA Club World Cup, that exalted position will no longer be occupied by FC Barcelona alone. Coincidentally though, Bayern Munich hammered Barca 8 – 2 enroute to achieving this glory. Barring any upset at the tournament, we expect that Bayern Munich will also win the FIFA Club World Cup.
