According to reports from Camp Nou, Argentina captain Lionel Messi has extended his contract with FC Barcelona.
Recall that the Catalan side was earlier pushed to make hard choices financially due to the club’s money woes. In response to the dilemma they found themselves, Barca has been forced to let go of some players to reduce their wage bill in order to accommodate Messi’s emoluments.

However, the salary cap is still high at the moment, making it literally almost impossible for the club to finalize the contract extension for Lionel Messi.
News making the round at the moment has it that the Blaugrana’s captain has agreed to a 5yrs deal. This will keep him at the club till 2026, by which time he will be 39yrs. The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days according to reports.

Few days ago, Romano Fabrizio also made similar statements, stating that Leo has agreed to stay at Barca for the foreseeable future.

Leo captained his country to the Copa America 2021 victory after defeating Brazil in the finals. He scored 5 goals and 4 assists, and was named the Best Player of the Tournament.
