Injury Updates: Ter Stegen, Ansu Fati, Ousmanne Dembele and Philippe Coutinho

It’s not been an easy summer with the likes of Lionel Messi, Alba, Pedri, Busquets, De Jong and Braithwaite all participating in their various continental competitions. Pedri is also part of Spain’s Olympics team in Japan, and there’s doubt if at all he will have enough time to rest before the season starts.

As preseason draws closer, we take a look at some first team members who are undergoing therapies and recovering from injury.

After undergoing a surgery recently, the German shot stopper is billed to return to action around October.

His injury is proving to be a nightmare for Barca amidst the club’s financial crisis. This is because, both Inaki Pēna and Neto are reportedly seeking exits from the club. If both could not be convinced to stay, FC Barcelona may be forced to enter the market for a goalkeeper.

The young forward has been undergoing some therapy of recent after a long injury lay off.
After starting the 2020/2021 season in scintillating form, Ansu Fati got injured at the beginning of the season last year.

According to report, he has chosen to continue his recovery by splitting his days between Madrid and Barcelona. From the report, he will spend four (4) days in Spain with a renowned Physiotherapist and three (3) days in Barcelona for other light works.

He is expected to be fully ready around August, and may not be part of the early fixtures. It is understood that Barca don’t want to rush his reintroduction to the first team to avoid aggravating the injury or causing a relapse.

For the first time in a while, Dembele pulled through a season without a long lay off. However, it seems the nagging injury woes can’t seem to let him be and eventually, he pulled a hamstring at the UEFA Euro 2020 Finals.

He has opted to continue his recovery in Paris alongside a Barca Doctor who will be tending to him.

Coutinho has been out since December 2020, and has not played any single game since then.

He is currently back at Camp Nou and will be training individually for the main time. The Brazilian is expected to undergo further medical tests ahead of the preseason and will be a part of the squad for 2021/2022 if the club do not find suitors for him in the current transfer window.
