FC Barcelona 3 v 1 Girona FC: Depay and Manaj on Target, Saiz Scores Panenka

FC Barcelona strolled to their second victory in two consecutive preseason games after a 3 – 1 win against neighbors, Girona FC.

The Catalans welcomed many of the first team members back to the club, with the likes of Griezmann and De Jong returning from the European competition. Also, new signing, Memphis Depay was included in the line up, and he didn’t fail to disappoint.

Although Barca started the game in a lackluster manner, they soon got things going and in the 21st minute, got a penalty that was converted by Gerard Pique.

Rey Manaj, the hattrick hero against Gimnastic Tarragona, made it 2 – 0 before the second half. His goal is the only one (1) of the four (4) goals scored on the night that was not from the penalty spot.

However, Girona FC grabbed one goal back before the halftime break with a beautiful panenka penalty taken by Saiz after Motimer’s ball handling inside Barca’s box. Rey Manaj got injured and was replaced by Memphis Depay, who immediate got synced into the game in a matter of minutes.

Alongside the likes of Griezmann who was introduced later in the game, the Catalans were able to get another scoring opportunity in the form of a penalty. Memphis Depay stepped up and converted the penalty to give Barca a 3-1 lead.

The game ended in the same scoreline, but credit must be given to the likes of Gavi and Collado who put on exceptional outing in the match. Also, it is important to note that most of the first team players introduced in the 60th minute of the game are still out of gas, but showed promising signs.

Barca will play Stuttgart in their next Preseason friendly.
