7 Famous People Who Died on Their Birthday

Historical coincidences never cease to amaze us. To the long list of strange events that already exist, are the popular figures in history that made their own exit on the day they were born. For these people, the day that commemorates their birth is also the same as the date they departed from this world. If you’re curious who they are, here are 7 popular figures that died on their birthdays –

1. Ingrid Bergman (August 29, 1915 – 1982)

The famous Swedish actress, a winner of three Oscars, passed away on August 29, 1982, when she was 67 years old. She is still remembered as one of the best actresses in history. She starred in Swedish and German movies at the beginning of her acting career. Bergman had a long and successful career in Hollywood and died of a nasty breast cancer on her birthday.

She got married to Petter Aron when she was 21yrs old and gave birth to her first daughter, Pia. They got divorced due to her relationship scandal with the man she loved – Roberto Rossellini. Her love affair with Rossellini resulted in pregnancy and she was delivered of a baby boy. She, therefore, had to get married to Rossellini. Two years after, she had a set of twins for her lover.

Bergman’s marriage with Rossellini lasted for only 7 years because of infidelity and she got married to Lars Schmidt. About 20 years later, the couple got divorced; however, they loved each other till Bergman’s death.

2. William Shakespeare (April 23, 1564 – 1616)

There is conflicting information about the author’s life, despite being one of the most famous writers in history. Although he was baptized on April 26, 1564, there are indications he may be born around April 23, 1564, and died on April 23, 1616. William had few legal disputes at the end of his life over vague stories of land belonging to him.

His wife Anne Hathaway was 8 years older than him. William and Anne had three kids – a daughter and a set of male and female twins. The couple lost their only son at the age of 11. William died on the day assumed to be his birthday after a week he signed his will. Cause of death remains unknown.

3. Sidney Bechet (May 14, 1897 – 1959)

Although Sydney is not one of the best-known musicians, he was a jazz figure and probably the first saxophonist to stand out. He was also one of the first soloists and made a duet with Louis Armstrong. He was born on May 14, 1897, and died the same day but in 1959.

Born in New Orleans, the jazz star chose France to hand over the weapon to the left on his 62nd birthday. He could play different kinds of musical instruments right from a tender age, but he majored more in clarinets.

4. Raphael (April 6, 1483 – 1520)

He was one of the most famous painters of the Renaissance alongside Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo. Although it is difficult to know if his date of birth is correct, everything indicates that he was born on April 6, 1483, which was also a Good Friday, and died the same day in 1520.

He was diagnosed with a severe ailment when he was only 37 years old and died after 15 days of being sick. The good news is that he was already a megastar at the time and that he was treated to a funeral with great fanfare. He now rests in the Pantheon, Rome. He never had a wife but he confessed that he had several romantic relationships.

5. Machine Gun Kelly (July 18, 1895 – 1954) 

This North American gangster is one of the most famous of his likes. He is at the level of other well-known characters like Bonnie and Clyde. At some point, he was even a prisoner alongside Al Capone. He was born on July 8, 1895, and died on the same day in 1954 due to a failure in his heart.

The ailment he suffered could be traced to his addiction to hard drugs and alcohol. He publicly identified himself as a drug addict in his lifestyle and songs. He had his only daughter when he was still a teenager. 

6. Kamehameha V (December 11, 1830 – 1872) 

His full name is Lota Liholiho Kapuaiwa Kalanimakua Kalanikapuapaikalaninui Ali’iolani Kalani-a-Kekuanao’a – too long for close friends. You will learn that Lota was the fifth king of the Kingdom of Hawaii and that he had a beautiful, well-stocked mustache. He passed on his birthday at the age of 42.

7. Ella Baker (December 13, 1903 – 1986) 

She is known as one of the most important civil rights activists in the United States. She hung out with Martin Luther King quite a bit, and she fought like hell until her 83rd birthday. A great Virginia-born lady as they say. She also worked with other great human rights activists like W. E. B. Du Bois and Thurgood Marshall. She died on her birthday.

There is also the most recent, Country singer Merle Haggard died on April 6, 2016, his 79th birthday.
