FC Barcelona is going into the 2021/2022 league campaign a little bit short, especially with the big roster of injured players still on their way to recovery.
Aguero got injured on the eve of the Joan Gamper Trophy match, causing a big blow to the club’s striking options, especially with the departure of Lionel Messi.
He was diagnosed with a calf problem and is ruled out for at least 10 week’s from today. That’s really a long time to be off the pitch. On the other hand, it gives Barca time to relax on his registration with La Liga and focus on Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia who are reportedly likely to get registered today.
Ousmanne Dembele is still recovering from his injury during the Euro’s. Apparently, he survived his La Liga injury woes only to be injured again at the summer European tournament against Hungary. He was substituted from the game after that. Obviously, he will be missed by the team, as he we was beginning to live up to expectations, which landed him the Euro spot in the first place.
Dembele is expected to be back around October, 2021 although his selection will be heavily dependent on if he signs a contract extension with the club. His current contract with the Catalan giants will run out this season, and there are rumors he may not continue with the club but will likely leave on a free transfer.
Ter Stegen already went under the blade before the season ended to solve a nagging patella problem. He is likely to return around 20th August, although he may not be included in the match day squad until after the international break.
Ansu Fati has been off the pitch since November 2020 after suffering knee ligament damage. However, he has now returned to the club and has started light training after undergoing some surgical procedures. The youngster is expected to return to action after the international break.
Oscar Mingueza was part of Spain’s squad at the Olympics but got a hamstring injury during the competition. He has returned to the club and is ruled out for at least three weeks from today.
Koeman will not be able to rely on Clement Lenglet and Frenkie de Jong too – they recently got injured and will miss early season fixtures as a result.
Updates: Frenkie Jong is now likely to feature in tomorrow’s fixture against Real Sociedad according to the coach.
