Barca and Bilbao were forced to a stalemate after a hard fought encounter at San Mames. The two La Liga top sides shared the spoils after Barca pressured on late in the game to get an equalizer to Athletic Bilbao’s early second half goal.

Ronald Koeman’s side dominated the majority of possession in the game, but they weren’t the best threatening team on the night. Athletic utilized their home advantage and bombarded the Barcelona defense with countless offensive onslaughts. Their successive counterattacking moves on the night got them a goal within the first five minutes through Martinez in the second half of the game, forcing FC Barcelona to respond in kind.
Depay would go on to equalize for the Catalan giants with a quarter of an hour to go, opening the game up and giving Barca a leverage. However, none of the two teams could score the second crucial goal to break the deadlock. Eric Garcia would also go on to get marching orders for a foul.

Barca did come close to securing a second goal, but it was all thwarted. The last of such was the bicycle kick from Araujo which narrowly missed its mark. The match also continues Barca’s envious away record in La Liga since their resurgence last season.
