FC Barcelona maintained their unbeaten start to the season after win against Getafe in Match Day 3 of La Liga. The Catalans went into the match a little invigorated with the return of first choice goalkeeper, Ter Stegen as well as the inclusion of Coutinho in the match day squad.
Barca didn’t waste time to get the evening affairs at the Camp Nou going. In the second minute of the match, Memphis Depay teed up Sergi Roberto after taking on some Getafe players in their own post. Sergi Roberto wasted no time before converting the chance with a well timed effort that slipped through the legs of the opposition’s goalkeeper to give Barca the lead.
Getafe equalized the goal in the 18th minute of the game; poor clearances from Barca defenders gave Sandro Ramirez an opening. Sandro slotted in the ball past a hapless Ter Stegen with a right-footed powerful drive – Carlos Alena was the assist provider. Both were former Barca players and so, it must really have stung so deep, especially with the fact that Barca has drawn their last game.
Barca came out guns blazing afterwards although with little attempts at goal for all their efforts until the 30th minute when Memphis Depay latched on to a pass from De Jong, cut right back a bit inside the box and unleashed a low powered shot which went past the Getafe goalie to give the Catalans their second and last official goal of the night. Although Barca did manage to score another goal in the match, it was ruled out for offside.
The Madrid based side, Getafe did organize a lot of offensive attacks and had many attempts at Barca’s Ter Stegen, but it was not to be as the game ended 2 – 1 in Barca’s favour. FC Barcelona suffered another injury casualty in the match after goal scorer; Sergi Roberto got injured on the pitch. This is bad timing for the midfielder who has enjoyed a stellar start to the season with two (2) goals and one (1) assist so far in three (3) matches.
But, what is more worrying is Griezmann who seem to be having a very quiet season so far, especially as the club needs the French forward to step up. But, overall, it was a good game although the team needs to start scoring more and conceive less going forward.
