Injury Updates: Dembele, Ansu Fati, Coutinho, Aguero, Jordi Alba, Gerard Pique, others…

The latest injury addition is the sad news of Martin Braithwaite’s knee problem which he got during training. According to report, the injury means the Danish forward is out of action till next year 2022; a major blow for FC Barcelona.

Braithwaite has started in all of Barca’s La Liga matches this season, scoring two (2) and assisting once in three matches. However, this injury means he will no longer see game time in the foreseeable future and would dedicate his energy into recovering from the setback.

On the bright side, Gerard Pique and Philippe Coutinho are billed to return this week against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.  Pique was injured in the clash against Athletic Bilbao before the International break. However, there are huge indications that Barca’s second captain will start the march due to the level of opponent the team will be facing.

Also, Coutinho is due for a comeback against his former team with whom he won the Champions League two seasons ago. The Brazilian midfielder has been out since sustaining a long term injury that hampered his 2020/2021 season.

Another injury blow to the team is Sergino Dest who got a knock during the International break while playing for the USA national team. Although he may be included in the match day squad, there are strong indications that he may not get the medical all clear to start the match, and may likely be replaced by Oscar Mingueza.

According to reports, Ansu Fati’s recovery is progressing very well, but the club will not rush him back just yet. On the other hand, both Dembele and Aguero are not likely to return any time until October at least.

Jordi Alba almost gave an injury scare with a minor knock. Current reports suggest that the speedster will be manning the left back position due to the caliber of the opponents, even though it is not yet confirmed if he is hundred percent fit for the crucial opening match.
