Araujo to the Rescue as FC Barcelona Maintain Unbeaten Record after Draw with Granada

It seemed like familiar stories when Granada took the lead in the 2nd minute at Camp Nou to give the visitors a well deserved lead.

Despite creating numerous chances, even coming close with a bar hit, Barca fell short of the mark all through the first half of the game.

At some point, the match day commentator was heard saying FC Barcelona are playing as if they are the winning side. That pretty much sums up how the play went for the Catalans on the night.

In the second half of the game, Balde was injured and had to be replaced by Luuk De Jong. Well, despite getting one of the best chances of the game, L.D Jong failed to head a free ball into the back of the net when a chance was before him.

To their credit, Barca did switch to a direct approach of the game, bombarding the opponents with attacks that yielded nothing. However, the Catalans continued to pressurize Granada until the 89th minute when Ronald Araujo equalised the game with a wonderful header from a Gavi lob.

It was a fitting finale to his wonderful performance on the night, and he was unarguably, Barca’s best player on the night. With the performance last night and in the Champions League, Araujo may have as well cemented his place in the starting XI.

The stalemate at Nou Camp also means Barca’s unbeaten start to the season is safe or now. But, if the club is to challenge for the league, they need to start converting their chances.

Meanwhile, Barca fans have not hidden their displeasure with Koeman’s style and now want him out.

Barca will now look forward to their meeting against Cadiz on Thursday.
