FC Barcelona were held to another goalless draw away from home at Cadiz. This comes as pressure continues to mount on Ronald Koeman who is now likely uncertain of his Barca future after the collosal draw yesterday.
Barca went into the match with a lot to prove after the teams mediocre performances in their last three (3) matches. However, Cadiz were no easy pushovers for the Catalans on home soil, and threatened to score on several occasions despite Barca controlling huge chunk of possessions.
Koeman can’t really be blamed for his players inability to bury the ball in the back of the net when they got the opportunity. Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong were especially guilty of missing easy targets on the match which cost the team two points.
Although things improved in the second half of the game for the Catalan giants, the goals still didn’t come. But, the frustration caused Frenkie De Jong to get sent off for double booking in the early stages after the second half began.
To their advantage, the red card didn’t cause them to loose the match, but one of the most influential players on the night was lost. This adds more woes to the depleted Barca side who are literally torn to shreds at every single position on the pitch with injured players.
There has been rumours that Koeman may be sacked sooner rather than later, and this match may have given more credence to that. It remains to be seen what the club’s board plans to do to salvage the situation.
