Ansu Fati Makes History with Solo Goal as Barca Humble Levante at Camp Nou

FC Barcelona unarguably played their best match of the season against Levante today at the Camp Nou. The team came out gun blazing from the get go as soon as the whistle for kick off was blown with Memphis Depay opening the scoring in the early minutes of the game.

Ronald Koeman opted to trust the pair of youngsters, Nico and Gavi alongside Busquets in the midfield while retaining the forward line of Coutinho, Depay and F.D Jong; the decision paid off for the Dutchman. FC Barcelona controlled proceedings all through the first half, with Luuk De Jong getting the second goal to crown the teams attacking efforts.

However, for all their bombardments and multiple chances created, Barca was wasteful in front of the post, and they should have scored at least four goals in the first half if they had converted their clear cut chances. Levante barely threatened in the first half, and all the best chances (6/8) went to Barca. The wasteful attitude continued in the second half, with Memphis Depay being the most wasteful of the lot.

However, the introduction of Ansu Fati into the game sent the Nou Camp into a rupture. The prodigy has been out for 322 days and the fans were more than delighted to see their new No.10 take onto the pitch with the iconic shirt. Barca’s coach, Ronald Koeman had earlier stated that the youngster will only be given at most 15mins in the match as a way to slowly reintroduce him into the team until he regains full match fitness. But, the moment Ansu Fati touched the ball, it didn’t seem like he has been off.

Towards the end of the game, the youngster hustled for the ball in Levante’s half, skillfully escaping his marker before driving the ball forward. While Levante players followed, he surged forward with the ball before shooting a low powerful drive into the back of the net in his short solo run to send the Camp Nou into frenzy.

It was an unbelievable moment and probably a sign of greater things to come as the club can at least take a huge positive going forward after weeks of turmoil and managerial crisis. Ansu Fati was also crowned King of the Match.

It was an all round performance from FC Barcelona. Sergino Dest, Gavi, Nico and Mingueza were all exceptional on the pitch, and proved their inclusion in flying colors.
