5 Ways to Easily Identify a Narcissist

I began research on narcissistic behaviors after an ill fated relationship with an ex. Having observed same behavior from another acquaintance, I was convinced this isn’t gender specific.

Narcissism manifests itself in an extreme self-indulgence which often leads them into downplaying the importance of other people’s needs. They are also mostly aware of this behaviour but probably gets an off from it, especially if it helps them satisfy their materialistic needs. In normal parlance, narcissists are mostly full of themselves and usually self absorbed into their narcissistic view of the world. There are, nevertheless, certain common features of narcissists that you may be able to recognize. Some of these noticeable habits include but not limited to –

  1. High Sense of Entitlement

Their superior complex impulse twirls their psyche into believing they deserve special treatment all the time. It makes them feel the rules do not apply to them because they are probably doing you a favour by being with you. However, it’s just their usual emotional blackmail to make their victims overreach their importance due to the false emotional bonding they (narcissists) created in the beginning with you.

  1. Lack of Empathy

They are mostly unwilling to empathize with the needs, views, desires, or feelings of others. They find it difficult to accept responsibility for their actions because of this as they lack or intentionally suppress their empathic emotive nature.

  1. Rude and Arrogant

When a narcissist is denied what they think they deserve, their attitude may become unpleasant, unnecessarily rude, or aggressive. They may talk or act unconcernedly towards the source of that inconvenience.

  1. The Constant need for Validation and Admiration

Constant demand for attention is one of the most prevalent habits. Because people with this disposition need to be validated by others, they regularly exaggerate their accomplishments in order to attract attention. They need to be complemented all the time to feel good about themselves because their most vital stock in trade is the personal feeling that they are happy with themselves. They also feel you have to know about it or else they start acting out in weird ways that may make you start wondering the reasons for the swift mood changes all the time.

  • Manipulative Tendencies

A narcissist will strive to satisfy and impress you at first, but their narcissistic nature will eventually manifest in the end because that’s who they are deep within. They do this because they will soon collect from you, usually relying on emotional blackmail.
