Injuries has hampered FC Barcelona’s 2021/2022 campaign with all players injured at one point since the start of the current La Liga season.
With the number of Barca first team strikers who has been injured so far this season, it’s a wonder the club has still managed to be in 5th position in the league table.
• ANSU FATI and MEMPHIS DEPAY
After a long injury lay off which he fought off and made a come back eventually, Fati got injured (knee) again in November last year few weeks after his initial recovery.
Memphis has been out since November with a hamstring injury. Speaking at a press conference, Xavi said –
“They are still not ready for tomorrow.
“They are working well and we will see if they can be ready for Granada.”
Both players are expected to be back for the El Classico.
• FRENKIE DE JONG and DONALD ARAUJO
Barca lost both players to injury in the Copa del Rey match against Linares in midweek.
Ronald Araujo fractured the second and third metacarpal bones in his right hand during a clash in the game. According to the club, an update will be provided after a scheduled operation.
Frenkie De Jong strained the soleus muscle in his left calf and will be unavailable for the game against Granada today as his recovery will be strictly monitored.
• SERGI ROBERTO and PEDRI
Sergi Roberto has been out of action since October last year. Although the club is yet to release any new developments, it’s expected that he will likely be sidelined for up to four (4) months after the surgery.
Pedri may return this month according to reports, although when he will take to the pitch is not yet revealed. He has been training vigorously and is currently back with the squad.
• MARTIN BRAITHWAITE
Braithwaite made a miraculous come back after suffering a debilitating injury last year that ruled him out. The Danish international has returned to light training and is hoping to come back stronger and better. Speaking on his role when he returns, the Danish international said –
“I have spoken with [Xavi]. He is clear about what he wants to do and what he wants to change. He knows how he wants to play, and that makes everything very clear. It will be very exciting.
Now it is a question of returning soon, but I will have an important role when I return,”
In his new year wishes, Braithwaite said –
“Looking at my objectives for 2022. A small personal goal is: Scoring a hat trick for @FCBarcelona and the danish national team. And why not multiple! Let’s go “
• OTHER INJURY UPDATES
Gavi, Sergino Dest and Alejandro Balde have all returned to the training ground to give Xavi a fresh breath of news. Clement Lenglet is also expected to be back after contracting COVID-19.
