Memphis Depay and Ansu Fati’s injury relapse meant that FC Barcelona were put to a corner, a very difficult angle.
Dembele’s contract saga intensified the Catalans push for forwards, culminating in the Spanish giants signing attackers to bridge the gap. Ansu Fati’s likely return is not in the short term.
Barca was heavily linked with so many players in the 2021/2022 January transfer window, most of which were attackers. Players like Oscar, Andres Christensen, Mathis de Ligt, Morata, Erling Haaland, and others were continuously rumoured to be on the verge of becoming Barca players. However, the Catalans were able to land three strikers at short notice.
Barca are struggling to enter the top four in La Liga after a disappointing opening to the season under sacked coach, Ronald Koeman. The Dutchman was replaced by another club legend in Xavi Hernandez who is charged with salvaging the club’s current dilemma as Joan Laporta rebuilds the tattered club.
Although the players Xavi is left with may not be his ideal choice, it’s been a busy transfer window for the former Barca captain. After several frustrating news on Dembele’s contract situation, Barca was forced to acquire Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to bolster their squad.
Fans will be particularly thrilled with
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as he is a prolific scorer and may as well cement his name in the Catalan capital for the long haul. The former Arsenal star said he was sad how things turned out between him and the Gunners. Although yet to be registered, Arsenal FC has indeed confirmed that they have officially cut ties with the Gabonese star.
Adama Traore grew up through the ranks at Barca and played together with so many club legends. At the time, he was deemed surplus to requirements and was sold with a buy back clause.
Traore has risen in status since then, staking a place in the heart of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans as he bamboozled players and helped them stay afloat in the English Premier League. He was signed on loan with an option to purchase.
Earlier, Barca completed the signing of Ferran Torres from Manchester City for €54m. His signing seemed to have rattled French star, Ousmanne Dembele who decided to hold out on the Catalans in order to run through his contract with them and become a free agent in the summer.
Yusuf Demir who was signed in the summer has been relieved of his ties with FC Barcelona and sent back to Rapid Vienna. Dani Alves was also signed last year (but not in the summer) and have since garnered starting berths for himself since his return.
The Brazilian has been welcomed back to his former club after he offered himself to the club and they accepted. The former Sevilla star made his second debut for the club in the 1-2 victory against Linares in the Copa del Rey.
