Barca 4️⃣-0️⃣ Bilbao: Unstoppable Barca humble Athletic Bilbao in four goal thriller

Has FC Barcelona finally reinvigorated their mojo? The scorelines of the past few days may be suggesting so.

Coming from the back of an impressive outing in the Europa League, Barca put Athletic to the sword in a resounding four goal thriller that saw Pedri and Dembele make the Nou Camp crowd go wild.

Xavi Hernandez made little changes to the team that destroyed Napoli last week, dropping Frenkie de Jong in place of Gavi while Dani Alves replaced Sergino Dest at right back. Dest was moved to the left back position where he immediately enmeshed himself and felt right at home.

Despite controlling proceedings from the start of the game, FC Barcelona could not break the goal drought that took over the game after coming close to scoring at various intervals.

However, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang broke the deadlock in the 37th minute to give the Catalan giants a much needed opening goal.

The first half ended with Barca leading by a goal but that all changed after Xavi tweaked the team a little and introduced Dembele and Frenkie de Jong.

They sparked the game into life instantly, plucking the creative drought the team fell into while Pedri mesmerized the Nou Camp with his incredible plays and dribbles.

In the 73rd minute, a Frenkie de Jong pass found Dembele on the offensive, and the Frenchman took the ball to his opponents with little effort before smashing a left footed effort pass the Bilbao goalkeeper to double Barca’s lead.

Dembele will later provide double assists in the 89th and 93rd minute for Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong respectively to give Barca a commanding 4 – 0 lead at full time.

The win puts Barca (45 points) just a point behind Real Betis (46 points) who lost to Sevilla earlier. FC Barcelona also have a game in hand having played a game less than their rivals.
