Galatasaray 1 – 2 FC Barcelona: Pedri masterclass as La Blaugrana secures QF spot in Europa League

The Catalan giants secured their spot in the next stage of the Europa League competition after a hard fought victory away from home.

Barca had succumbed to an early goal after Marcao opened scoring with a well timed header in the 28th minute of the match. It seemed like the Catalans were headed for doom until the sleek pass build at Galatasaray’s box opened up Pedri.

The young Spaniard and current best young player in the world pulled a deft touch, calmly dribbled pass two of the opponent’s defense before powering a perfect drive pass the hapless Galatasaray goalkeeper who was left speechless.

The goal was the perfect response Barca needed to spur their game after a lackluster opening performance. The first half ended in stalemate at 1-1. However, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added the second goal of the night after Pedri’s effort was blocked, and the ball was squared off by De Jong with his head pass.

The former Arsenal man’s goal was enough to end the game in Barca’s favour after so many other missed chances and Jordi Alba’s scruffle with opposition fans at the touchline.

FC Barcelona will be looking forward to knowing their next opponent in the competition after the draws today. Barca’s next match is against Real Madrid on 20th March, 2022 – El Clasico.
