Ukraine: Putin maintains hard stance, vows to cut off “unfriendly” EU nations from Russia’s gas tomorrow

Speaking today in a televised program, President Vladimir Putin again warned that “unfriendly” countries (including all EU members) will be cut off from Russian gas supply except they opened account in roubles to pay for their deliveries. He said –

They must open rouble accounts in Russian banks. It is from these accounts that payments will be made for gas delivered starting tomorrow, April 1” ~ Vladimir Putin.

Emphasizing on the consequences of failing to adhere to the new Russian payment system, President Vladimir Putin warned that –

“If such payments are not made, we will consider this a breach of obligations on the part of our buyers with all the ensuing consequences,” Putin said.

Before the massive economic sanctions collectively levied on Russia by EU and NATO countries, Putin had warned that any nation that interferes with its military operations will face “consequences you have never seen before”.

France and Germany has maintained its stance that it will not switch to Rubles, citing “blackmail”. As the deadline given by President Putin for Ruble gas payment switch draws closer, European Union weigh alternatives.

It remains to be seen what happens next as EU specifically scrambles to find solutions for its enormous oil and gas supply because winter is coming.
