Tom Cruise “Top Gun: Maverick” hits $1Billion to become highest grossing movie of 2022

The Tom Cruise led “Top Gun: Maverick” movie has soared past the $1Billion mark at the global box office to become the highest grossing movie of 2022.

The prequel to 1989 “Top Gun” film officially became the highest-grossing film of Tom Cruise’s career, giving his “Mission Impossible” franchise a big run for its money and may likely prompt future productions as a result of its billion dollar success.

The 59-year-old actor is set to star in the next installment of “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning (Part 1)” next year 2023. Top Gun 2 as the movie is widely known is not just the most successful film of all time for the risky stunts actor, the sequel became the first movie of 2022 to reach that rare benchmark barely 31 days in theaters.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($943 million) was previously the highest grossing movie of 2022 until Top Gun: Maverick usurped the position at the global box office.

Jurassic World Dominion

However, with Jurassic World Dominion ($746,664,000) released on June 10, 2022 currently showing at various theaters across the world, “Top Gun: Maverick” is in for a serious competition and may be dethroned in no distance time if previous box office numbers from the dinosaur franchise is taken into consideration.

As at the time of this report, Top Gun: Maverick has grossed $1,006,423,000 so far in 2022.
