All eyes were on Polish striker, Robert Lewandowski as FC Barcelona presented their marquee summer signing to thousands of fans at the Spotify Nou Camp today.
During the presentation at Camp Nou, Lewandowski donned his new “Number 9” shirt, a jersey that brought on the goodies for the Catalan based side. The former Bayern Munich forward now joins an illustrious list of Barca players who have worn the famous shirt.
The weight of the shirt can undoubtedly be carried by the World Player of the year who is a great goalscoring machine. Lewandowski won the European Golden Shoe wearing the number 9 shirt at Bayern Munich for two seasons.
He also wore the famous number 9 jersey for the two other clubs he played for, i.e. Borussia Dortmund and Znicz Pruszkow in 2007/08.
With the Number 9 jersey now assigned to Lewandowski, little remains to be seen what will be of Memphis Depay who occupied the number previously.
The Netherland forward has been enmeshed in a dilemma since the arrival of the Polish striker. At the moment, it’s looking like Depay may be surplus to requirements and the probability of transfer to the Premier League cannot be ruled out before the end of the transfer season.
