PC Okoi Liyomo, the police officer who was videoed flogging a civilian with cutlass has been arrested and transferred to Abuja for disciplinary proceedings according to Force PR.
CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson of the state police command, had promised that the officer will be identified and invited to Abuja.
Speaking about the development, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, Abuja Headquarters, made this known through his official Twitter handle. According to him –
“PC Okoi Liyomo, the policemen who was caught in the viral video flogging one man with a cutlass in Cross Rivers State has been brought to the Force Headquarters Abuja. He met wit the IGP today. The IGP has ordered for his tria. I await the outcome of the trial.
“We will update u asap. We still reiterate our commitment to sanitising the NPF, no room for nonsense, as we will not condone any act of lawlessness, unprofessionalism, corruption, harassment and incivility.”
Recall that the Nigerian police also publicly derobed another officer a few days ago for shamelessly obtaining bribery from civilians while asserting that nothing will happen along a road in Koji State.
Although the Nigerian Police Force has its numerous frailties and limitations, it does seem that the era of flagrant attitudes from indisciplined forcemen may be getting cut gradually. However, citizens are still perturbed by the fact that the Force only acts when such officers act go viral on social media, making it impossible to hide the atrocities of the erring officers.
